If you've spoken to me recently on the phone during the past few weekends of the college football season, you know how absolutely infuriated I am with the fact that the Big Ten play NO games on both Thanksgiving weekend, and the first weekend in December (aka conference championship weekend).
Apparently the idiots who run the Big Ten have instituted a rule that no game can be played after Thanksgiving.
Well, once we moved to the 12 game schedule (another stupid rule), this meant NO BYE WEEK for Big Ten teams. Look at a conference like the Pac 10, who played this year on BOTH Thanksgiving weekend AND the first weekend in December. In essence, each Pac 10 team got 2 bye weeks.
How can the Big Ten be so stupid?
Easy.
The don't want any game to upstage their precious Ohio State vs. Michigan matchup. That's what this league is all about. Heaven forbid someone play AFTER that game.
It's a well known fact among big ten insiders that the league hasn't moved to a conference championship game because they consider Michigan vs. Ohio State as the conference championship game.
It's great to see guys like Barry Alvarez, Iowa, and the folks at Northwestern and Illinois stand up these arrogant pricks who run the Big Ten, and try and get this game moved.
Wonder how ending the season early worked out for Brutus last year in their bowl game (63 days off?) and Larry Johnson's Heisman campaign (Carson Palmer got an extra 2 weekends on TV).
The Big Ten just further proves their arrogance, and their willingness to sacrifice what is best for the league, the players, and the fans (who get no Big Ten football the last two weekends of the season) in order to placate the "tradition" of Ohio State vs. Michigan.
What a joke.
